Butterflies - LOCK-DOWN - 2020

The UK has  59  species of butterflies

– 57 resident species of butterflies

- and 2 regular migrants – the Painted Lady and Clouded Yellow

On July 28th I reached my target of seeing & photographing* 50 species

As of August 11th, I have seen  52 species in 2020   The Painted Lady eluded me until 11th Aug !

38. Small Copper (1st picture is an aberration ab.caeruleopunctata (row of blue dots). (There are 140  named aberrations known to occur in Britain)

52. Long-tailed Blue         (Uncertain migrant from the Mediterranean (not included in 59) and now regularly found on the South Coast - 2015 and 2019 were good years)

54. Chequered Skipper    (Fort William area - Scotland / Possibly Rockingham Forest, Northampton - reintrodction project from Belgium populations)
55. Cryptic Wood White   Ireland (County Armagh, Norther Ireland)
56. Large Heath        (Northern Species - Scotland, Cumbria, North West, Wales, Ireland)
57. Mountain Ringlet        (Scotland and Cumbria)
58. Scotch Argus         (Scotland and Cumbria)
59. High Brown Fritillary      (Dartmoor, Devon and Cumbria)
60. Northern Brown Argus (Northern England and Scotland)
